UBITQUITY has open-sourced BlockSTRACT!

“What is BlockSTRACT?”
BlockSTRACT is a Marketplace for Abstractors and Title Production Vendors.
Pain Point: The abstract process is critically important to ensure there is a clear title on the property being sold.
“Why did you open-source it?”
Like many start-ups, Ubitquity decided to pivot. We pivoted in order to focus on real estate payments (UbitquityPay) and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) modules, and an eventual full software suite for title/escrow, underwriters, and banks (SmartEscrow). While the BlockSTRACT software is a beautiful and fully functioning Java application, we realized the market demand for such a product wasn’t there. Instead of shelving BlockSTRACT and having it never see the light of day, we decided to turn the GitHub Repo from “private” to “public” and see how the global community can contribute to enhancing this application. Besides social coding is a lot more fun, don’t you think? :)
“What kind of open source license does BlockSTRACT have?”
We at Ubitquity changed the license from proprietary to the MIT license. Read the license commit change: https://github.com/ubitquity/BlockSTRACT_Source/commit/4283dd02d52a3002b1a666bc8358c6faebde2d93
“The MIT License is a permissive free software license originating at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the late 1980s. As a permissive license, it puts only very limited restriction on reuse and has, therefore, high license compatibility.” — Wikipedia (Citation: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIT_License)
“How does this benefit Ubitquity?”
A community-driven contribution to BlockSTRACT which is now at version 1.0 will improve the application. A community reviewing and improving the source code will help fix bugs and harden the code against security vulnerabilities/exploits that may exist in BlockSTRACT.
Ubitquity will be able to, when appropriate, take pieces of this source code and implement them into our other software applications. In addition, Ubitquity is available for paid legacy support and software development consulting on a per-request basis. Email info@ubitquity.io for details.
An expanded description of BlockSTRACT:
BlockSTRACT: A blockchain-powered marketplace for abstractors as well as title production vendors, allowing for the easy integration of the abstract process, an ‘Uber’-like process of finding qualified abstractors, as well as recordation of abstract research onto the blockchain. The blockchain component is a piece that will require integration — Unanimity can do so and we can help in this regard.
BlockSTRACT is a platform, similar to Upwork and Freelancer, whereby a title company can place a request for work, and many abstractors and title production vendors can bid for the work. The system plugs into most title production software and gives the title agency real-time status of the product and more once an abstractor agrees to undertake the work at the agreed-upon price.
Features Included: View Orders (Open/Closed/Cancelled/All), Search, Reports, Fulfillment, Tracker, Inbox/Messaging. Upload Documents.
